Why Extrack does not link to your bank

No bank login. No SMS scraping. By design.

On this page

Extrack does not link to your bank — no aggregator integrations, no SMS scraping, no OAuth bank logins. Every transaction is something you typed in or restored from your own backup. This is a deliberate trade-off: you spend a bit more time logging, you keep total control of your financial data. No third party (including Extrack) ever has access to your bank credentials or statements.

Why this trade-off

Bank aggregators store your credentials, replay them to fetch statements, and hold your transaction history on their servers indefinitely. SMS scrapers (common in Indian finance apps) need permanent read access to your messages — every SMS, including OTPs. Both expand your attack surface dramatically. Extrack takes neither permission so neither risk applies.

What you get instead

You enter transactions yourself (10–30 seconds each) or use the Automation inbox / Claude MCP integration to dictate them (VIP feature). The MCP server cannot decrypt or read your real ledger; on-device matching suggests categories and people. Your data lives in your workspace; you can export a full backup any time.

Frequently asked

Will Extrack ever add bank linking?

Unlikely. The privacy posture is core to the product. If we ever do, it would be opt-in.

How do I keep up with transactions then?

Log on the spot — the floating + button is one tap from any page. For automation, connect Claude via MCP (VIP) and dictate the row.
