What a person balance means
Positive = owes you. Negative = you owe them. Zero = settled.
On this page
A person balance in Extrack shows the net amount between you and that person across every split, lend and repayment. Positive means the person owes you (emerald in the People activity helper). Negative means you owe them (rose). Zero means settled. The total of all positive balances is summed at the top of the page as "Total you're owed".
How transactions move the balance
Three kinds of activity move a person balance:
- Expense + person + split (you paid) — their share opens as a receivable; balance goes up by their share.
- Lending (Expense allocated 100% to a person) — balance goes up by the full amount.
- Income + person + settle-split — their receivable closes by the income share; balance moves toward zero.
"Hide zero balance" toggle
The toggle "Hide zero balance" (aria-label "Hide people with zero balance in the directory") hides settled people. Useful to see only the open balances.
Frequently asked
A person shows zero — should I remove them?
Optional. They are hidden by default when "Hide zero balance" is on. Remove from the directory only if you are sure you will not transact with them again.
Why is my balance off by a small amount?
Probably a cash repayment never logged, or a recent split edit. Tap the person to see the full activity feed and find the missing/changed row.
