How budgets work in Extrack
Monthly caps. One overall, plus per-category. Pills: On track / Approaching cap / Over cap.
On this page
Budgets in Extrack are monthly spending caps. There are two kinds: one overall cap (every expense counts toward it) and per-category caps (e.g. Food ≤ ₹15,000). Each cap has a status pill — "On track", "Approaching cap" or "Over cap" — and the overall card also shows a "Per day to land at cap" run rate. Budgets is a VIP feature.
Two sections on the page
Below the overall card, the page splits per-category caps into two sections: "Capped categories" and "Uncapped categories". Tap "Set cap" on any uncapped category to capture a number for it.
What is excluded
Transfers between your own accounts are excluded from every budget cap. The page subtitle reads: "Set a monthly overall cap and per-category caps. Stay within plan."
Overall is an independent ceiling — it does not need to equal the sum of category caps. Each cap is its own number.
Frequently asked
Why is Budgets blocked on Free / Premium?
Budgets is a VIP capability. The Free trial includes VIP for 30 days; after that, Premium and Free see an upgrade gate ("See plans" / "Plan & billing").
Do per-category caps need to sum to the overall cap?
No. They are independent ceilings. The Budgets page explicitly notes: "Overall is an independent ceiling — it does not need to equal the sum of category caps."
