Is Extrack free?

New accounts get 30 days of full VIP access with no credit card. After that, continued writes need a Premium or VIP subscription — see /plans.

From: What is Extrack?

Do I need to give bank credentials?

No, ever. There is no integration with any bank or aggregator.

From: What is Extrack?

I want to use my real bank, not Cash.

Add the bank from the Accounts page first (see "Set up your accounts"). Then the new-transaction picker will list it.

From: Add your first transaction

What if I picked the wrong kind?

Open the row from Transactions, tap Edit (pencil) and switch the kind. Or Delete (trash) and recreate.

From: Add your first transaction

Can I rename or delete the starter accounts?

Yes — they are not protected. Edit "Cash" to "HDFC Savings" if that is more useful, or delete it if you have no cash flow and only use bank accounts.

From: What starter accounts come pre-created?

Why Mutual Funds and not just Cash?

Most users have at least one investment they want to track from day one. Pre-creating it shortens the path to a meaningful net-worth number.

From: What starter accounts come pre-created?

Should I add my UPI as a separate account?

No. UPI uses your bank balance. Add the underlying bank only.

From: Set up your accounts

Do I need to know accounting to use Extrack?

No. You pick the kind and accounts; Extrack handles the debits and credits.

From: Core concepts you should know

What if Home is empty for me?

Brand-new accounts show empty cards because there are no transactions yet. Add an account and a transaction; the cards populate.

From: Tour of the Home page

I dismissed the welcome — can I see it again?

It does not auto-reappear. The same content is captured in this help category.

From: The 4-slide welcome tour after signup

Why is Extrack not in the App Store / Play Store?

PWAs install from the browser with the same look-and-feel as native apps — no app-store review delay, no platform revenue cut.

From: Install Extrack as a mobile app (PWA)

Transactions

Open topic →
Can I add an expense in the past?

Yes. Tap the Date field and pick any prior date. Extrack stores the ledger in chronological order regardless of when the row was created.

From: How to add an expense in Extrack

Do I have to pick a category?

No. The field is labelled "Categories (optional)". Uncategorised expenses still post; you can edit later to add categories.

From: How to add an expense in Extrack

Why is there a "Not a need" checkbox?

It marks the expense as a discretionary spend rather than a need — used to refine budget analysis. It is shown only on Expense kind.

From: How to add an expense in Extrack

Will adding an expense affect my budget?

Yes. Every expense counts toward the monthly overall cap, and toward any per-category cap on a category you tagged. Transfers between your own accounts do not — see "Expense vs Income vs Transfer".

From: How to add an expense in Extrack

Does income count toward my monthly budget?

No. Budgets track outflow only. Income posts to the ledger and account balance but never consumes any cap.

From: How to add income in Extrack

How do I record a refund — Income or negative Expense?

Use Income with a Refunds category. That keeps the original expense honest and the refund visible separately on Reports.

From: How to add income in Extrack

Can I tag people on Income too?

Yes. The People field is present on Expense and Income. Tagging a person on income with the split flow settles their "Lent" receivable — useful when a friend pays you back.

From: How to add income in Extrack

Why is transfer excluded from my budget?

Transfers move money you already own — net worth is unchanged. Counting them would double-count: once when you received the money, once when you moved it.

From: How to record a transfer between your accounts

How do I record a credit-card payment?

Transfer kind. "Paid from" = your bank, "Paid to" = the credit-card account. The bank drops by the payment; the card balance moves closer to zero.

From: How to record a transfer between your accounts

What if the receiving account got slightly less because of a fee?

Set the Credit amount to what actually landed. Then record the fee as a separate Expense from the source, categorised "Bank charges".

From: How to record a transfer between your accounts

Can I transfer between two different currencies?

Yes — enter the Debit amount in the source-account currency and the Credit amount in what actually landed. Reports flags mixed-currency totals; it does not auto-convert.

From: How to record a transfer between your accounts

How do I split unevenly?

In the Adjust split tab, pick "By amount" and type each person's exact share. Or use "By %" or "By shares". The running total at the bottom turns green when the shares sum to the bill total.

From: How to split an expense with people (Splitwise-style)

Does a split create a separate loan account?

Yes — one "{Person}'s Lent" receivable account per person, created the first time they appear in a split or lend. View under Accounts → "Lent" filter pill.

From: How to split an expense with people (Splitwise-style)

What if I forget to add someone?

Open the row on Transactions and tap the pencil/Edit action. Add them in the People field, accept the split invite again, save. The receivables rebalance.

From: How to split an expense with people (Splitwise-style)

Does my share count toward my budget?

Yes. Only your share — the non-self shares post to receivables, not categories, so they do not consume budget caps.

From: How to split an expense with people (Splitwise-style)

I want to split among others only — not include myself.

In Equally mode, uncheck the "You" checkbox. Your personal share becomes zero; the full total is owed back to you by the other participants.

From: How to split an expense with people (Splitwise-style)

Does lending count as spending?

No. The amount posts to the person's receivable account, not to a category — so budgets and category Reports do not include it.

From: How to track lending (lend money + record a repayment)

Where do I see who owes me what?

On the People page. Each person card shows their net balance (positive = owes you). Tap to see the full activity feed.

From: How to track lending (lend money + record a repayment)

They paid me in cash — does the receiving account matter?

It matters for your cash account balance, not for the receivable. Pick the actual receiving account (cash or bank); the receivable closes regardless.

From: How to track lending (lend money + record a repayment)

What if they never pay back?

Write off the balance: see "How to write off a person balance". The receivable closes with the loss posted as an Expense (categorise as "Gifts" or "Bad debt").

From: How to track lending (lend money + record a repayment)

Can I lend in installments?

Yes. Each installment is its own Expense + split with that person. They roll up into one People balance.

From: How to track lending (lend money + record a repayment)

Can I change the kind (e.g. Expense → Transfer)?

Yes. Change the kind in the modal, fill in any kind-specific fields (the Transfer kind requires both legs) and save. Extrack rewrites the underlying allocations.

From: How to edit a transaction

I edited a split — what happens to the receivables?

They rebalance automatically. Add a person and their receivable opens; remove a person and theirs closes. Adjust a share and their balance moves by the delta.

From: How to edit a transaction

Can I duplicate a transaction instead of editing?

Yes — tap the Duplicate (copy) action next to Edit. A new draft opens with the same values; change the date and save to create a duplicate row.

From: How to edit a transaction

Can I convert a transaction into a recurring template?

When the row qualifies, a Convert to recurring action shows next to Edit. Tap to open the Recurring template form prefilled with the row's values.

From: How to edit a transaction

Can I undo a delete?

No. Extrack deletes are permanent. If you deleted by mistake, re-create the row (Duplicate action on a similar row is the fastest path).

From: How to delete a transaction

Why does the confirm dialog show different counts for stored transactions and table rows?

Because a split is one stored transaction but renders as multiple rows (one per allocation). The dialog shows both counts so you can verify your selection.

From: How to delete a transaction

Can I bulk-delete from a filtered view?

Yes — apply the filter, tap the checkbox on each visible row (or use the page-level select-all if shown), then Delete. The selection bar shows live totals so you can sanity-check before confirming.

From: How to delete a transaction

Why does the totals strip change when I filter?

Totals always reflect the visible scope. The strip appends " · filtered" or " · partial list" so you know it is not the lifetime total.

From: How to filter transactions in the ledger

Income and Expense presets — do they include splits?

Yes. The chips filter by the underlying transaction kind. Splits on an Expense show under Expense; settled splits on an Income show under Income.

From: How to filter transactions in the ledger

How do I filter by person?

Open the People page and tap a person — that takes you to their activity sub-page, a pre-filtered ledger of every transaction tagged with them.

From: How to filter transactions in the ledger

How do I filter by account or category?

Same pattern — open the Accounts page and tap an account, or the Categories page and tap a category. Each opens an activity sub-page with the same preset chips scoped to that entity.

From: How to filter transactions in the ledger

Can I tag more than one person?

Yes. The field accepts any number of comma-separated names. Each becomes its own row in the Adjust split panel when you set up a split.

From: How to tag people on a transaction

How do I un-tag someone?

Edit the transaction, remove the name from the People field (delete the chip / text), save. If they had a receivable from this transaction, it closes.

From: How to tag people on a transaction

What is the People directory?

It is the address book of names you have used. Edit it from the People page — clean up duplicates, rename, or remove orphaned entries.

From: How to tag people on a transaction

Can a transaction have more than one category?

Yes — the field is multi-select. Each tagged category counts the full transaction amount toward its rollup (not split across categories).

From: How to categorise a transaction

Why is the "Unknown" category showing spend?

Anything you save without picking a category lands in Unknown. Edit the rows to assign a real category, or bulk-re-categorise from Transactions.

From: How to categorise a transaction

Can I delete the Unknown category?

No. Unknown is a system category that protects rows from being orphaned when you delete a custom category.

From: How to categorise a transaction

How do categories affect Budgets?

Per-category caps in Budgets count only transactions tagged with that category. The overall monthly cap counts every expense regardless of category.

From: How to categorise a transaction

What is the difference between statement day and payment due day?

Statement day is when the bank closes the billing cycle. Payment due day is the deadline to pay without interest (usually 15–20 days after statement). Both feed the dashboard "due in N days" warnings.

From: How to track credit-card purchases

I paid less than the full statement — what next?

Record the partial payment as a Transfer for what you actually paid. The unpaid balance stays on the card; interest charged next cycle posts as an Expense from the card.

From: How to track credit-card purchases

Can Extrack auto-import card transactions?

No. Extrack is deliberately user-entered — no bank login, no third-party access. Manual entry keeps your credentials and statement data on your devices.

From: How to track credit-card purchases

Salary comes via bank transfer — is it Income or Transfer?

Income. Transfer means both accounts are yours. Your employer is outside your books, so salary is Income — even if the channel is a bank transfer.

From: Expense vs Income vs Transfer — what is the difference?

Is a credit-card payment an Expense?

No, it is a Transfer. The original purchase was the Expense.

From: Expense vs Income vs Transfer — what is the difference?

I got a refund — Income or negative Expense?

Income with a Refunds category. Keeps the original expense honest; Reports shows both.

From: Expense vs Income vs Transfer — what is the difference?

How are budgets affected by each kind?

Only Expenses consume budget caps. Income and Transfer never affect Budgets.

From: Expense vs Income vs Transfer — what is the difference?

Does this mean my expense total is wrong?

No. Money totals (income/expense/net) are calculated by stored transaction, not by row. The display shows multiple rows for clarity; the math counts each transaction once.

From: Why does my split show as multiple rows?

Can I collapse splits to one row?

Not currently. Most users want per-person visibility because they need to see who owes what.

From: Why does my split show as multiple rows?

Editing one leg of a split — does it edit the whole split?

Yes. Splits are atomic — editing any leg opens the full split editor (Adjust split tab). Shares rebalance together; to change one person's share without touching others, use the "By amount" split mode and edit only their value.

From: Why does my split show as multiple rows?

Do I need to know accounting to use Extrack?

No. You pick the kind (Expense / Income / Transfer) and the accounts; Extrack writes the debits and credits behind the scenes. The terminology never appears in the UI.

From: How Extrack's double-entry ledger works

Why does my receivable show as an "account"?

Because it acts like one — money has temporarily left your bank and is sitting with the person. Treating it as a per-person Lent account keeps the math consistent and makes balances easy to see.

From: How Extrack's double-entry ledger works

Can I export the underlying double-entry rows?

The export (Profile → Portability) gives you every transaction with its kind and account references. Debit/credit columns are implicit from the kind — they are not stored as separate fields.

From: How Extrack's double-entry ledger works

What is the "Lent" filter pill?

A synthetic chip next to the Loan type filter that narrows the list to per-person Lent receivables only (Loan accounts named "{Name}'s Lent" that were auto-created from splits/lends). Useful for a quick "who owes me what" view.

From: Account types explained

Can I change an account type later?

Yes — edit the account and pick a different type. Transactions stay; type-specific fields update.

From: Account types explained

Can I import history from my bank?

No — Extrack is user-entered. Set the opening balance to whatever the bank shows today and log forward from there.

From: How to create a new account

Is there a limit on number of accounts?

No hard limit. Most users have 3–15.

From: How to create a new account

Changing the opening balance — does it affect existing transactions?

No. Transactions stay; the current balance shifts by the delta. Use this to fix a setup mistake.

From: How to edit an account

Why can I not toggle "Closed" on a brand-new account?

The "Mark this account as closed" checkbox only appears in Edit mode (not Create) — there is no reason to create a closed account.

From: How to edit an account

I got it wrong — can I fix it?

Yes. Edit the account and change the opening-balance field. The current balance recomputes; transactions are untouched.

From: What is an opening balance? (And why the label changes)

Why "Credit limit" for credit cards?

For credit cards, the more useful starting reference is the limit. Your owed balance is tracked via posted Expenses; the field labels the cap, not what you currently owe.

From: What is an opening balance? (And why the label changes)

Why does my current balance differ from the bank app?

Usually: unposted transactions you have not logged, or rows logged as the wrong kind (e.g. credit-card payment as Expense instead of Transfer). See "Why is my account balance wrong?".

From: What is an opening balance? (And why the label changes)

My card has no annual fee — leave the field blank?

Yes. Set Annual fees to 0 (or leave blank). No recurring template is created.

From: How credit-card accounts work

How do I record the bill payment?

As a Transfer from your bank to the credit-card account. See "How to track credit-card purchases".

From: How credit-card accounts work

Does Extrack calculate EMI?

No — the interest-rate field is informational. Use /tools/emi to compute the EMI; set the EMI itself as a monthly Recurring template.

From: How loan accounts work

Why does my loan balance not drop when I post the EMI?

Because the EMI is partly interest (Expense from the loan account) and partly principal (Transfer to the loan account). Split the EMI into both legs.

From: How loan accounts work

Why no live prices?

Live FX/price feeds need a third-party service. The privacy-first design avoids that. Manual updates take 30 seconds per quarter.

From: How investment accounts work

One account per fund, or one per AMC?

Either works. Per-fund gives finer gain/loss tracking; per-AMC is simpler. Most users go per-AMC (one for HDFC funds, one for Axis, etc).

From: How investment accounts work

Close vs Delete — which one?

Almost always Close. Delete is permanent and removes every transaction posted to or from the account. Close preserves history.

From: How to close (or hide) an account

Can I re-open?

Yes. Edit, untick "Mark this account as closed", save. The account is back in pickers immediately.

From: How to close (or hide) an account

Can I delete the Cash account?

Yes if it has no transactions and at least one other account exists. Cash is a starter account but is not protected.

From: How to delete an account

What about per-person Lent receivable accounts?

Those are auto-created. Delete them by removing the underlying transactions (the lends/splits) — the receivable closes automatically when its source is removed.

From: How to delete an account

Why is "Lent" a separate chip if Loan exists?

Loan covers both borrowed and lent. "Lent" filters Loan accounts down to just the per-person receivables auto-created from splits/lends — useful for a quick "who owes me what" view.

From: Filter accounts and control visibility

Credit card balance too high — bank shows zero.

You probably logged purchases as Expenses but forgot to log the bill payment as a Transfer. Add the Transfer from your bank to the card.

From: Why is my account balance wrong?

Cash account shows wrong amount.

Usually unrecorded cash spends, or an ATM withdrawal logged as Expense instead of Transfer (bank → cash).

From: Why is my account balance wrong?

Categories

Open topic →
Are categories hierarchical?

No — Extrack uses a flat list. Use prefixes if you want grouping ("Food: groceries", "Food: eating out").

From: What are categories in Extrack?

How many categories should I have?

Most users settle on 10–20. Too many makes the multi-select picker slow.

From: What are categories in Extrack?

Can I set an icon or color?

No — the only field is the name. Categories stay visually consistent across the app.

From: How to create a category

How do I rename a category later?

Categories → tap the category → Edit → new name → Save. Every transaction tagged with it updates automatically.

From: How to create a category

Can I edit the "Unknown" category?

No. It shows a "System" badge in place of edit/delete actions — it cannot be renamed, deleted or capped.

From: How to edit a category

Will renaming break a per-category budget cap?

No. The cap stays attached to the category id, just with the new label.

From: How to edit a category

Where do the transactions go?

Anywhere that category was tagged, the tag drops. Transactions still exist; they just become uncategorised (rolled up under "Unknown" until you assign a new category).

From: How to delete a category

Can I delete "Unknown"?

No. It is a system category, protected from delete (auto-filtered from any bulk selection).

From: How to delete a category

Why can I not set a budget cap on Unknown?

A cap on "stuff I have not classified yet" would not be actionable. Re-categorise the rows; do not cap the bucket.

From: The "Unknown" system category

How do I clear Unknown?

Open the category, see the rows, edit each one (or open them from Transactions) and add a real category.

From: The "Unknown" system category

Where are the on-track / over-budget pills?

Those live on the Budgets page, not Categories. Categories shows raw rollup numbers; Budgets shows status against your caps.

From: Category rollups — month vs year

Can I add an icon or color from the quick-create form?

No — the quick-create form only has the name field, same as the full Categories page.

From: Create a category inline from a transaction

Should Salary be a category?

Yes — categories work for income too. Income categories drive the Reports Income totals the same way expense categories drive Expense.

From: Category naming conventions that work

Why is Budgets blocked on Free / Premium?

Budgets is a VIP capability. The Free trial includes VIP for 30 days; after that, Premium and Free see an upgrade gate ("See plans" / "Plan & billing").

From: How budgets work in Extrack

Do per-category caps need to sum to the overall cap?

No. They are independent ceilings. The Budgets page explicitly notes: "Overall is an independent ceiling — it does not need to equal the sum of category caps."

From: How budgets work in Extrack

How is "Per day to land at cap" calculated?

Remaining cap ÷ days left in month. Tells you the daily allowance for the rest of the month if you want to hit exactly your cap.

From: Set the overall monthly cap

I am over my cap — what happens?

Nothing automatic — Extrack does not block transactions. The status pill flips to "Over cap" in rose, and the card shows "Over by ₹X". Caps are feedback signals, not guardrails.

From: Set the overall monthly cap

Can I cap "Unknown"?

No — server-side validation rejects it. The Unknown system category is protected because capping uncategorised spend is not actionable.

From: Set a per-category budget cap

Why is my category not in the Uncapped list?

Either it already has a cap (look in Capped categories above), or there is no spend in it this month so it does not surface.

From: Set a per-category budget cap

Does going over affect anything else?

No. It is a visual flag — transactions still post, the dashboard still shows balances. Reports highlights months where you went over.

From: What "Over cap" means

I am over because of one large transaction.

Sanity-check whether the transaction belongs in this category. A one-off big purchase in the wrong category skews the rollup.

From: What "Over cap" means

Can I set different caps in different months?

Not from the UI today. Caps repeat across months at the same amount. (A repeating vs one-off-override mechanism exists in the data model but is not exposed in the Budgets UI yet.)

From: Navigate budgets across months

Can I look at last year?

Yes — keep tapping the ‹ chevron. Past months show the cap that applied with the actual spend.

From: Navigate budgets across months

Will past months still show the cap?

Past months preserve the cap that applied then, for historical fidelity. Forward from this month, no cap.

From: How to remove a budget cap

How many caps should I set?

Start with the overall cap plus 2–3 of your biggest categories (typically Food, Subscriptions, Transport). Add more once those are stable.

From: Set realistic budget caps

Planned & recurring

Open topic →
Can I convert a planned item to recurring?

Not in one click. Create a recurring template fresh — it is two minutes — and delete the planned item.

From: Recurring vs planned — what to use when

Can a planned item override a single recurring occurrence?

The data model allows it (via `recurringTemplateId` + `recurringOccurrenceDate`), but the UI does not currently expose an "Override this occurrence" button. The linkage happens server-side during approval flows.

From: Recurring vs planned — what to use when

What if the planned item never happens?

Tap Delete on the row from the Planned page. Removed permanently.

From: How to create a planned item

Can I edit a planned item before it is posted?

Yes — tap Edit on the row. Change any field, save. See "Edit a planned item".

From: How to create a planned item

Can I post in advance?

No. Posting only works when the scheduled date is today or earlier. Edit the row to change the date, or wait.

From: How to post a planned item to the ledger

I posted by mistake — undo?

No undo. Delete the now-posted transaction from Transactions and re-create the planned item.

From: How to post a planned item to the ledger

Can I change the date to today and have it auto-post?

No. Even with today's date, posting is explicit — tap Post. This protects against accidental ledger churn.

From: How to edit or delete a planned item

Can recurring templates auto-post without approval?

Not currently. Approval is explicit — protects against template drift (e.g. salary changed and the template still has the old amount).

From: How to create a recurring template

Can I create a recurring template from an existing transaction?

Yes — when the row qualifies, a "Convert to recurring template" action appears next to Edit on the Transactions row. One tap opens the recurring template form prefilled with the row's values.

From: How to create a recurring template

What if multiple occurrences are due?

They each appear as separate Due rows. Approve each (or use the Reject action to skip one without posting).

From: How to approve a recurring occurrence

What if the actual amount differs from the template (e.g. salary bonus)?

Edit the row before approving — change the amount, then Approve. The template itself stays unchanged for next month.

From: How to approve a recurring occurrence

Can I un-reject later?

No. If you rejected by mistake, post the equivalent transaction manually via the floating + button.

From: How to reject a recurring occurrence

Does Reports show rejected occurrences?

No — they never posted, so no transaction exists. Reports shows only posted months.

From: How to reject a recurring occurrence

Why are past occurrences not updated?

Past occurrences are now Transactions — independent rows. Editing the template would silently rewrite history; that would break Reports. Edit the individual rows on Transactions if you need to.

From: How to edit a recurring series (or a single occurrence)

Why is frequency locked on "This occurrence"?

Changing frequency only makes sense for the whole series — a single slot does not have its own cadence.

From: How to edit a recurring series (or a single occurrence)

What are "linked planned overrides"?

A planned item that was created to override a single recurring occurrence is "linked" via the recurringTemplateId field. Deleting the template removes those overrides too — they no longer have a series to override.

From: How to delete a recurring template

What if I deleted by mistake?

Recreate the template from scratch. Two minutes; same recurring behaviour resumes.

From: How to delete a recurring template

Why does the action not show on every row?

It only shows when the row qualifies — splits, lent receivables and certain edge cases are not convertible.

From: Convert a transaction to a recurring template

Does converting move the original transaction?

No. The original stays on the ledger; a new recurring template is created with the same values. Future occurrences post separately when you approve.

From: Convert a transaction to a recurring template

People & lending

Open topic →
Why does the same person show up twice?

Probably typed under two slightly different names ("Rahul" and "rahul k"). Open one, rename to match — the rename merges the entries.

From: What is the People directory?

A person shows zero — should I remove them?

Optional. They are hidden by default when "Hide zero balance" is on. Remove from the directory only if you are sure you will not transact with them again.

From: What a person balance means

Why is my balance off by a small amount?

Probably a cash repayment never logged, or a recent split edit. Tap the person to see the full activity feed and find the missing/changed row.

From: What a person balance means

Can I create a "Lent" account manually?

Yes — when you create a Loan account, the form has an optional "Lent receivable — link to person" field. Set it to link a manually created Loan to a person from your directory. Useful for migrating balances from another tracker.

From: Per-person "Lent" receivable accounts

What happens to the Lent account when I delete the person?

Removing a person from the directory updates how they appear in the directory; transactions stay attached via id, and the Lent account stays until you remove the underlying transactions.

From: Per-person "Lent" receivable accounts

Do I need an email or phone number?

No. The directory is just names. No contact details, no phone-contacts integration.

From: How to add a person to the directory

How do I deliberately merge duplicates?

Rename one entry to match the other exactly — validation detects the duplicate and gives you the option to merge.

From: How to rename a person (and merge duplicates)

Will my balances change?

No — receivables stay on the underlying Lent accounts. Removing the directory entry is a naming-only change.

From: How to remove a person from the directory

What about partial settlement?

Adjust the amount on the prefilled draft before saving. The remainder stays on the Lent receivable.

From: How to settle a person's split balances

I want to write off a balance — there is no Write off button.

Correct. Extrack does not have a separate write-off action. The pattern is: post an Expense from the Lent receivable to an "Bad debt" or "Gifts" category — closes the receivable while recording the loss.

From: How to settle a person's split balances

Can I sync with their workspace?

No. There is no "share workspace" with a friend feature. Reconcile by reviewing your activity feed together once and fixing any mismatches in your own ledger.

From: How to reconcile a balance with a friend

Why exactly 12 months?

Long enough to spot trends, short enough to fit on a phone screen without scrolling. Past 5 covers the last quarter+ for hindsight; next 6 covers the planning horizon most users actually act on.

From: What the Reports page shows

Can I see further back?

Yes — change the anchor month using the "Anchor:" date control. The 12-month window shifts to centre on that month.

From: What the Reports page shows

What counts as expected?

Recurring template occurrences with a due date in the month, plus planned items scheduled for the month. Both not yet approved.

From: Posted vs expected — what each means

A month shows expected ₹0 — why?

No recurring or planned items fall in that month. Either you have no schedules for the period, or you already approved them and they moved to posted.

From: Posted vs expected — what each means

Is a credit-card payment Planned or Unplanned?

Neither, if recorded correctly. Credit-card payments are Transfers, which Reports excludes from spend totals. The original purchases (Expenses) are what count.

From: Month drill-down — planned/recurring vs unplanned

What if I forgot to approve a recurring template?

That occurrence shows under the Expected section, not Posted. Approve from the Recurring page to move it to Posted; the drill-down updates.

From: Month drill-down — planned/recurring vs unplanned

Empty when I pick a kind — why?

No rows of that kind in the visible window. Extrack shows "No {kind} rows here." Try a different anchor month or remove the filter.

From: Kind filters in Reports

How do I return to "now"?

Set the anchor month back to the current month using the picker.

From: Change the anchor month

Are these the same as Reports?

No. Reports gives the 12-month time-scoped roll-up. Activity drills give the raw transaction list for one specific entity, with the same preset chips and bulk-edit affordances as Transactions.

From: Account, category and person activity drills

Why no auto-conversion?

Live FX rates need a third-party feed and pick a moment in time that is rarely accurate for retrospective reporting. Manual entry stays honest and auditable.

From: How Reports handles multiple currencies

Can I export reports without VIP?

Export of the full workspace is available via Profile → Portability → "Download backup file" on any plan. That gives you the raw transactions; building reports outside Extrack is up to you.

From: Why is Reports asking me to upgrade?

Is the free trial VIP?

Yes. Every new account gets 30 days of full VIP, including Reports.

Automation & AI

Open topic →
Does Claude see all my transactions?

No. Claude only sees the metadata needed to create a draft — account names, category names, person names. No balances, no transaction history, no totals.

From: What is the Extrack MCP integration?

Can MCP work with other AI assistants?

Yes — MCP is an open protocol. The Extrack MCP docs at /docs/mcp explain the connection URL and OAuth requirements; any MCP client that supports OAuth 2.0 should work.

From: What is the Extrack MCP integration?

Where exactly do I find the connection URL?

On /docs/mcp. The URL varies by operator (we self-host); the page lists the canonical Extrack-managed URL plus the redirect URLs Claude.ai requires.

From: How to connect Claude to Extrack

How do I disconnect Claude?

In Claude integrations → Extrack → Disconnect. The OAuth token is invalidated and no more drafts can be created until you reconnect.

From: How to connect Claude to Extrack

Can I edit a draft before promoting?

Yes — open the draft, tweak fields, then "Add to ledger".

From: The Automation inbox

I see "Automation inbox unavailable" — why?

Your plan does not include the automationInbox capability. The unavailable card body reads: "Your workspace doesn't include the automation inbox capability (MCP / staged drafts). Contact your administrator if you need access." Upgrade to VIP (or use the 30-day trial) to enable.

From: The Automation inbox

Why does the page show a "Loading workspace data…" toast?

The on-device suggestion logic needs your accounts/categories/people loaded. Wait a moment, then try again.

From: How to approve a draft

Can I un-discard?

No. Discards are permanent. If you discarded by mistake, re-prompt Claude with the same instruction.

From: How to discard a draft

Why did the suggestion miss?

On-device matching is conservative — it only suggests when confidence is high. Ambiguous drafts show no suggestion; pick manually.

From: How draft suggestions work

Can I improve suggestions?

They improve as your directory grows. Cleaner category and person names = better matches. Avoid duplicate-ish entries.

From: How draft suggestions work

Can I revoke Claude's access?

Yes — disconnect the MCP integration in Claude. That invalidates the OAuth token and stops further draft creation.

From: How draft privacy works

Can Claude post directly without my approval?

No — every draft requires an explicit "Add to ledger" tap in the Automation inbox.

From: Common Claude prompts that work

Family (kids)

Open topic →
When does Family launch?

No firm public date. Waitlist signups get the launch email and any early-access invites.

From: What is Extrack for Family?

What ages is this for?

Children aged 8 to 17. The waitlist asks for the child's first name and age so invites can open in age bands.

From: What is Extrack for Family?

Will this also be for couples / partners?

Not currently. The Family product is specifically about kids learning money. Couples-shared workspaces are not on the roadmap as of this writing.

From: What is Extrack for Family?

Why does the form ask for my child's age?

So invites can open in age bands. The waitlist segments by age to align with the planned UI for that band.

From: How to join the Family waitlist

Can I add multiple children?

The hero references "One plan, all your kids — Add up to 3 children" at launch. The waitlist form takes one child per submission; submit again for additional children once they confirm signups are de-duplicated.

From: How to join the Family waitlist

Does this exist today inside the main Extrack app?

No. Today, the main Extrack app is single-user only. The Family-mode flow above is the planned launch experience.

Does Premium get the Claude MCP integration?

No. The Automation inbox (MCP) is gated by the `automationInbox` capability, which is on VIP and the 30-day VIP trial only.

From: Free vs Premium vs VIP — what each includes

Can I downgrade VIP → Premium?

Open Profile → Plan & billing → View plans. From /plans you can switch plans.

From: Free vs Premium vs VIP — what each includes

Can I extend the trial?

Not normally. Email support if you have a specific reason (e.g. you are mid-setup of a complex workspace).

From: How the 30-day free trial works

Does the trial recur on the same account?

No — one trial per account.

From: How the 30-day free trial works

Can I switch between Premium and VIP?

Yes. From /plans, pick a different plan. Charges prorate.

From: How to upgrade to Premium or VIP

Is the checkout in the app or external?

Razorpay's checkout opens within the page flow. We never see your card details — Razorpay tokenises everything.

From: How to upgrade to Premium or VIP

Will I get a refund for the unused portion?

Within 7 days of payment, yes — see the 7-day refund policy. After 7 days, cancellation stops the next charge but does not refund the current cycle. Use the remaining days, then revert to Free.

From: How to cancel your subscription

What happens to my data?

Stays read-only on Free. Download a backup any time via Profile → "Security & data" / Portability section.

From: How to cancel your subscription

How do I request a refund within 7 days?

Email support with the order ID. Refunds are processed via Razorpay back to the original payment method.

From: 7-day refund policy

I was charged twice — what now?

Email support with the transaction IDs. Duplicate charges are refunded.

From: 7-day refund policy

I subscribed by accident and have not used the paid features.

Within the 7-day window the refund is unconditional. Just email support.

From: 7-day refund policy

Why Razorpay?

India-first, supports every domestic method, PCI-DSS compliant.

From: Accepted payment methods

Can I pay in USD / EUR / GBP?

Billing is in INR. Your card issuer converts at the prevailing rate.

From: Accepted payment methods

Is there a fair-use cap on the API/MCP?

Yes, rate limits apply to prevent abuse. Normal Claude usage never trips them; if it does, you get a 429 with retry-after.

From: Are there any quotas or limits?

Privacy & data

Open topic →
Will Extrack ever add bank linking?

Unlikely. The privacy posture is core to the product. If we ever do, it would be opt-in.

From: Why Extrack does not link to your bank

How do I keep up with transactions then?

Log on the spot — the floating + button is one tap from any page. For automation, connect Claude via MCP (VIP) and dictate the row.

From: Why Extrack does not link to your bank

Is data residency disclosed?

The privacy policy does not state a specific AWS region. Security and infrastructure claims live in SECURITY.md, linked from /privacy.

From: What the Extrack privacy policy covers

Is the backup file encrypted?

The transport is encrypted. The file on your disk is plain JSON for portability — keep it somewhere safe.

From: How to download a backup of your data

How often should I back up?

Monthly for casual use; weekly for heavy use. Backups are small — typically well under 1MB.

From: How to download a backup of your data

Will Replace lose my current data?

Yes — that is the point. Replace wipes the current workspace before restoring. If you want to keep both, download a backup of the current workspace first.

From: How to restore from a backup

Why mailto and not an in-app button?

Manual review reduces accidental deletions. The email gives you a checkpoint to confirm.

From: How to request account deletion

Can I undo a deletion request?

Yes — reply to the email thread before the request is processed.

From: How to request account deletion

Do you train any model on my data?

No. The MCP integration with Claude sends only metadata (account names, category names, person names) Claude needs to create drafts — and only at request time, not as training data.

From: Who owns the data in Extrack?

Can I take my data with me?

Yes — "Download backup file" in Profile gives you a full JSON. Restore on any device.

From: Who owns the data in Extrack?

Is there a public analytics opt-out toggle?

The Profile → App preferences panel includes a "Staff analytics opt-out" section, but it is currently surfaced only to staff/admin/marketing-tools accounts. End-user analytics is governed by the vendor settings disclosed in /privacy.

From: What analytics does Extrack use?

Are my transactions tracked?

No. Events sent to analytics vendors are anonymised and structural — "user opened budgets page", not "user spent ₹500 on food".

From: What analytics does Extrack use?

Where exactly is SECURITY.md?

Linked inside the privacy policy at /privacy. The privacy policy points to it for security-specific questions.

From: How Extrack handles security

Is data encrypted at rest?

See SECURITY.md for the canonical statement. Generally: transport is HTTPS; database-level encryption follows AWS defaults.
